Eldrin Deas is an education consultant based in Durham, NC. He is currently working with Education Policy Initiative at Carolina (EPIC) to investigate the implementation and impact of a new statewide turnaround plan for low-performing schools in North Carolina.

Prior to joining EPIC, Eldrin taught high school math in Georgia, developed math assessments at American Institutes for Research (AIR) in Washington, DC, and served as Assistant Director of the Centennial Scholars Program at North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. As a member of the education committee for My Brother’s Keeper Durham, Eldrin works to drive policy to ensure more boys and young men of color graduate high school.

As an EP Fellow placed with the Connecticut State Department of Education, Eldrin became the state’s first Analyst for District Supervision and Support, working to extend the Department’s mission to help ensure equal opportunity and excellence in education for all Connecticut students. There, he engaged with the senior leadership, Boards of Education, and other elected officials in some of Connecticut's most challenged school districts. Using his experience and training in research, strategic design, and program evaluation, he developed and analyzed district policy, analyzed budgets, and monitored teacher performance in order to help each district reach the goals established in their three-year Strategic Operating Plans.

Eldrin is co-author of “Community-Based Accountability: Best Practices for School Officials,” published in the 2014 edited volume America’s Growing Inequality: The Impact of Poverty and Race. He holds a BS in Mathematics from Morehouse College, an MS in Social Foundations of Education from Georgia State University, and is pursuing a PhD in Education; Culture, Curriculum and Change at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
