Supporting the Standards for Mathematical Practice with Google Classroom
An often forgotten part of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, the Standards for Mathematical Practice are just as important as the content standards. They provide a guide for how teachers can work to develop students as strong mathematical thinkers and problem solvers. In this session, we will discuss what the standards mean, and then look at resources and exercises that can be used by teachers to support these standards. Google Classroom will help us organize and distribute resources, provide a mechanism for student collaboration, and allow for effective feedback to students.

Google Apps were amazingly well in a computer lab or on a laptop, but they can also be leveraged in a way that takes mobile learning with the student and gives them unique experiences where the students doesn't have to be anchored to a chair for learning to take place. Since schools have different resources available to them and different policies regarding the usage of devices in school (i.e. restrictions,BYOD, cellphones, etc.), this is meant to reflect examples of the way in which Google Apps could be used with mobility in mind.

Building & Supporting Collaborative Dialogue Practices with Google apps for Education
Collaborative dialogues provide learners with an experience where they explore and collaborate around meaningful problems. Like Socratic circles, digital tools can be used to allow students to ask deep questions and allow students to have authority and control over the direction of inquiry. This session will demonstrate how Google Apps can be utilized to allow students to extend these active learning behaviors beyond the constraints of time and place. Further during this session we will also provide resources can help educators in the planning, implementation and evaluation of collaborative dialog learning experiences.

Empowering Students through Feedback & Reflection using GAFE
Collaboration and communication through the implementation of digital learning practices help prepare all students to succeed as lifelong learners. Formative assessment can be used to improve student achievement and, when students receive descriptive feedback on their work, they are able to analyze what they have done well and identify areas for improvement. Google Apps can provide students with effective tools to help learners receive and provide feedback, along with opportunities to reflect on the learning outcomes. This session will focus on feedback and reflection through the use of GAFE including Docs, Forms, Hangouts, Add-Ons and Web Apps. Specifically, we will look at how lessons/projects that utilize Google Apps can connect students of various grade levels and encourage collaboration within the same school and beyond. You’ll come away with hands-on experiences, sample lessons/activities, and best practices/classroom applications.
